Best time to visit Mongolia: When to travel to Mongolia?

Table of Contents

Mongolia is located between Russia and the People's Republic of China in East Asia and is the second largest landlocked country in the world. With an area of just under 1,564,116 km² and a population of about 3.2 million people, Mongolia is also one of the most sparsely populated countries in the world.

Due to the low population density, you can admire vast landscapes, explore the flora and fauna of this beautiful country and get to know the authentic nomadic life of individual families. Here you can explore many different landscapes. From mountains and lakes to deserts, there is something for everyone.

Due to Mongolia's geographic location and continental climate, you should consider the best time to travel if you have an upcoming trip.

Travel Time In Mongolia

Travel time: Climate in Mongolia

The climate in Mongolia can offer both cool nights and very warm days. If you plan to spend the winter in Mongolia, you should definitely dress warmly. It is not without reason that Ulaanbaatar is considered the coldest capital city in the world. Here, the average temperature is -4° C during the year. However, there are also many warm and sunny days in the year. On almost 260 days a year, the sun tries to brighten up our lives.

In general, it can be said that the best season to travel, be it a trekking trip or a city trip in Ulaanbaatar, is between May and September every year.

Climate in the Gobi Desert

The Gobi Desert, the third largest desert in the world, is a fairytale world for people who like extremes. Here you can expect up to -40 ° C in winter and sun in summer at up to 45 ° C. However, caution also applies here should you spend long days in the sun. Here, small precautions, such as: covering the shoulders to avoid sunburn, wearing a head covering to escape sunstroke, and carrying a scarf to protect the face from light gusts of sand, can make life much easier.
